VJ Sonam a singer in the making

Sonam Pakhrin is the lively VJ of program dial the number which airs on NTV2 metro on weekdays. A soft spoken, unplanned but successful name in Nepali media and music domain Sonam want to be known an outstanding VJ and program producer. He stepped on this planet on May 10 at Asam, India. After his schooling in Mt. Egmont school in Darjeeling he joined Kurseong college from where he complete his bachelors in Arts/Humanities in 2001 AD.

He likes listening to all genres of music but is inspired from dedicated artist like Narayan Gopal and Suresh Kumar. One song he loves is “Koi Ye Kaise Bataye” by Jagjit Singh and he is also fond of listening to evergreen numbers by Kishor Kumar.Sonam Pakhrin Though he does not have any formal training in music or singing but is able to play the guitar well. He also wants to play the piano in future.

He states that his ear drums liked music from very early age and he was jamming with friends form his school days. With encouragement and suggestion from his friends he had a hidden singer in him trying to break free. When he arrived at Kathmandu in 2003 A.D luckily via an interview he bagged the job or a television producer/presenter in NTV 2 Metro. Then he operated the program Metro beats which focused on bands.

Telling that his actions are unplanned and future is uncertain, he does not reminiscence to have a struggling period to be mentioned. After VJing in Metro Beats and now also VJing in Dail the number he is all set to release his own album by mid September this year. He revealed the five songs of the album have been recorded and he likes all of his songs. Though he himself has not composed or arranged songs in his albums, good composers like Pramod Nirwan, Diwas Poudel, Sugam Pokharel, Mohit Munal have lent their compositions for his compilation. He is in process of getting a Sonamcomposition form Anil Singh and Ujjwal has also composed a number for his album. He adds that the album is primarily a pop album targeting the youth. Till now no video of the album have been completed but Sonam has plans to take our videos of his songs.

Not only as VJ and program producer, Sonam has tried his hands on video direction as well. Till date he has successfully directed four videos they are GX Soul’s Pareli, Anil Singh’s Bhana Bhana, Bijay Thapa’s Maile Piune Bahana and a Tamang selo. Claiming that Nepali music scenario is full of ups and downs, he adds that scope in the music industry here is not that good. There is a problem of sustainability, with it he supplements he is trying to release his album as a hobby rather than with an intent to make money out of it.

On being enquired about his future plans he is quick to declare that he has no planning which he admits is a bad and common habit he possesses. He wants to continue with what he is doing and as future is uncertain he does not know where he will end in future. He suggests program producers to produce entertaining programs and due to competition now in TV market as well, he thinks its benefiting the viewers. Sonam pronounces that piracy must be stopped to ensure the survival of the industry. For video directors, he advices to produce quality videos with improved standards. He also suggests the singer to choose the music video directors wisely. He is a well mannered and hard working professional, we wish him success and prosperity.
